Free Publicity for Entrepreneurs

Free Publicity for Online and Brick & Mortar EntrepreneursQualityBooks.com

In the last couple of years, I’ve come across an amazing, no-cost way to obtain great publicity for your company, website, or organization. And all it takes is a little elbow power (or a few bucks to hire a writer with same) and the information about where and how to get the notice.

Today there are over 300,000 online newsletters and electronic magazines (often called _ezines- for short) and the numbers grow daily. They cover virtually any topic you can think of, ranging from working at home to parenting to genealogy.

But here’s the biggest secret of all: Most of them rely on outside contributors for their information. In fact, many ezine publishers are starving for quality content. Consequently, they need experts (and you are an expert on something, aren’t you?) to provide short articles, tips, and advice to their readers. And we’re not talking major treatises or giant tomes here; most ezines publish articles as short as a paragraph or two.

Usually, you won’t get paid a dime for your contribution. However, because the publication will run your byline (which includes your name, company, and address — either physical or cyber), you’ll end up getting leads in the dozens or hundreds every time your article runs.

That’s dozens or hundreds of new visitors to your shop, website, or publication. For free. So, just how do you go about finding ezines that want what you have to contribute? Well, you can find and approach individual publishers and offer your articles or tips. But that’s often time-consuming, frustrating, and difficult.

The single best approach is simply to post your contribution to one of the growing number of free article distribution services that are sprouting up across the Web.

These services are frequented by ezine publishers looking for content and posting information about your article is the quickest way to get noticed. Depending upon the individual service, to post your article on their site, set up an autoresponder (a reply service that sends your article automatically to anyone who requests it, all without your intervention), or include the article or information about it in an online announcement service that they offer.

Here are my favorite places to announce your articles:

How to Craft a Series of Bestselling Titles from a Single Topic

How to Craft a Series of Bestselling Titles from a Single Topic
By: Jim Green Viewed: 472 Times Approximate Word Count: 390

During the past ten years I have authored seventeen traditionally published niche non-fiction books, all of which (save one) have achieved bestselling status in their respective genres.

Here’s the thing though, I have used only 2 topics to produce 16 bestsellers. How do you do that, craft a series of titles from a single topic?

It’s a little-known technique that dates back to the dawn of literature and is used by all bestselling authors either consciously or unwittingly. And when you know the secret, you can also use this technique in writing fiction.

It has a lot in common with what the late great Alfred Hitchcock called the “McGuffin”; the singular device he employed in all of his screenplays. Hitch reckoned that everyone is looking for something whether they are watching a movie or reading a book and when you discover what people are searching for in your particular niche you will be well on your way to writing a successful book in record time. And when you’ve done it once, you can do it all over again – as many times as you like.

Although considerable mileage still remains in the 2 topics I used to produce 16 bestsellers, I decided eighteen months ago to research a third topic for its McGuffin potential and the result was “Your Retirement Masterplan” (How To Books ISBN 1857039874) published in October 2004. This title currently ranks No.7 out of 3328 competitive titles on Amazon.co.uk and is due for a 2nd upgraded edition in February 2006; to be followed by “How to Earn Money in Retirement” in April of the same year.

But the McGuffin on this third topic is only just starting to bite…I also have signed contracts for these forthcoming titles:

1. “Maximising Mindpower to Enrich Your Retirement” — Publication date 2007
2. “Give Your Mind a Daily Workout in Retirement” – Publication date 2008
3. “101 Retirement Holiday Options” – Publication date 2008
4. “101 Projects to Spice Up Your Retirement” – Publication date 2009
5. “101 Online Venues for Stimulating Retirement Interests”- Publication date 2010
6. “Chronicling Your Lifetime Achievements in Retirement” – Publication date 2011
7. “Achieving Your Greatest Successes of Retirement” – Publication date 2011

Have you guessed the secret yet? There is no end to its power in producing bestsellers and if you would like to incorporate it in your creative writing, you will find out how in the website featured in the resource box below. This article was posted at iReprint.info on 2003-12-20. Marketing Your Books Can Be Fun And Profit Making

Marketing Your Books Can Be Fun And Profit Making
By: Jim Green Viewed: 523 Times Approximate Word Count: 370

Marketing your writing output can be fun, exciting, creative and profitable. It can also prove very frustrating and expensive if you do not know how to evaluate cost effective methods of viral marketing – offline and online.Over the years people have come to know me for my ability to develop low cost and no cost strategies for marketing and promoting a business, product or service; strategies that have realized handsome returns over the years.

Here is a recent example of what I mean…Just as I was checking the proofs for my next book “How to Earn Money in Retirement”I received a telephone call from a leading London PR consultancy inviting me to address 500 newly-retired couples at a seminar to be held in Essex, England, on Thursday 24 November; all potential customers of their client the world wide builder Bryant Homes. The invitation came my way because the first book in this series “Your Retirement Masterplan” is a runaway bestseller (No.2 on Amazon.com out of 3157 competitive titles) and also because one of the partners in the consultancy chanced to hear me speak in a recent BBC radio interview.

So what do I get out of this unique marketing opportunity?

1. The client buys 500 copies of “Your Retirement Masterplan”
2. I earn 10 percent in royalties from this bulk book purchase
3. I get to sign 500 copies individually
4. I get the opportunity to pass around my business cards
5. I get to address the retirees in a 20-minute talk on the third age adventure
6. I get the opportunity to promote my next book
7. I get 500 potential new customers for my future books
8. I get an all-expenses paid trip to the venue
9. I get a substantial appearance fee
10. I get exposure from local television covering the seminar

This is the quintessence of viral marketing and not only does it cost me nothing, I also make a profit out of the deal.Put on your thinking cap and come up with examples of similar ways you could market your produce for free and make money at the same time.

Kickstart Your Website Traffic

7 guaranteed techniques to kickstart your website traffic
– By: John Ugoshowa

Internet. Business. Profit. To fully integrate all of these words into a successful merging you will need another word. Traffic. Every article you will find about making your site or company successful would always include the importance of generating traffic.

So, we all know that in the core of it all, traffic is the most essential thing to a successful internet based business company. Aside from ensuring that you have a great product to sell, and you have your company’s internal organization well taken core of, it would be time to get to the nitty gritty of things, generating traffic.

If you already have a site and you want think that you’re not getting the traffic that you’re supposed to be getting, then its time to reconsider. If you are contending in these very competitive business, you should always be a step ahead of your competition, increasing your traffic flow should have been done starting yesterday.

Timing is essential, that’s an old adage known to everyone. But with generating traffic, you should always be on your toes and be a day ahead of everyone. Never think of today and tomorrow as a starting point for making your site traffic laden, it should always have been yesterday.

To help you out in generating more traffic for your site, here are some seven surefire ways to increase your traffic starting from yesterday.

1) Invest in good advertising with search engines Google’s Adwords and Yahoo’s Overture provide great advertising schemes that are very truly popular and assures great traffic.

Although with this surefire way to increase your traffic would cost some money. While some would shy away from spending money to increase traffic, it is imperative in this case to do so because Adwords and Overture is the top surefire way to increase your traffic. You could see for yourself the success this search engine advertising methods have reaped rewards for so many companies. Lots of site feature these advertising system and many have signed on to reap the benefits. Do not be left behind. Every penny is worth it with using Google and Yahoo’s advertising.

2) Exchange or Trade Links with other sites With exchanging links with other sites, both of you will benefit from the efforts both of you do to enhance your sites traffic. When one site features another sites link, they could provide one another with the traffic one site generates. The efforts are doubly beneficial because it would seem like both of you are working to generate more traffic. The more links traded with more sites the more traffic could be expected.

3) Use Viral Marketing Viral marketing allows you to spread the word about your company and product without any costs or if ever low costs only. This is a marketing method that can be quite sneaky; you can attach your company’s name, product or link to a certain media such as a funny video, entertaining game, an interesting article or a gossip or buzz. With this method, people get infected with the creativity and entertainment of the medium that they will pass it on to many people.

4) Search and use proper keywords or keyword phrases for your sites content Search engines look for certain keywords that they would show in their results page. In doing so, having the right keyword and keyword phrase is a high requirement in ranking in high in search engine results. You could write your own content or you could hire someone to do it for you.

5) Write Articles that can lead traffic to your site Submit articles to sites that would contain the same subject that your site deals in. If you sell car parts write press releases and articles about cars and car parts. Attach your sites description and services at the end of the article as well as the link.

6) Join forums and form online communities Capture a market and show your expertise and credibility. When you found a good foundation for your site, people will trust you and your site and will pass on to many people their trust. Traffic will certainly increase because they know that you can provide what they need.

7) Lastly, Offer newsletters If many people know what you are about and your existence is shared with many others, you will find a loyal traffic that can provide you with more traffic by recommendation. If you arouse the curiosity of your customers they would be pushed to help you with your traffic.

How to Fast-Write a Book and Get Rich Doing It!

How to Fast-Write a Book and Get Rich Doing It!
By Roice Krueger On October 10, 2007

Are you ready to become the writer you want to be, the writer you were born to be, the writer you need to be if others are ever to know what you know? It is our hope that you will become inspired by the strategies we have shared and start writing a book that only you can write.

So how can you fast-write a book? The answer is that there are multiple ways. You can write it yourself. You can have it ghostwritten. You can coauthor it. You can dictate it. You can interview your way to a book.

Writing Yourself
Before you write a book, have a soul-storming session with yourself, friends or Mastermind group and write out as many titles as you can. Include areas of interest you’d like to write about. Plan to review and add to this list regularly.

Write what you know. Surely you have a signature story that you frequently tell to the delight of listeners. Use that to get your mental juices flowing. Don’t try to be perfect. Remember, nobody ever publishes their first draft!

You don’t have to sit down and write a book today or tomorrow. Take it one step, or sentence, at a time. Write a little each day and watch your book develop.

Hiring a Ghostwriter
Almost all celebrities and people of fame have ghostwriters who interview them and do the “heavy lifting” for them in writing their books. Inexpensive ghostwriters can be found in a multitude of places. For instance, ask other authors if they know great ghostwriters, every English department head will cheerfully tell you who the students are with great talent and promise, and, in Hollywood, the Screen Writers Guild is loaded and overflowing with talented writers who are hungry for work.

Sample their work before you sign a contract. Many are superb, we are told. You dictate what you want written; and they write it, research it, and finish it for you.

Co-Authorship is Wonderfully Beneficial
Co-authorship is another way to get your book out of you and do it fast! It keeps you dedicated to your writing, publishing, and marketing assignments, because you don’t want to let down your colleagues, friends, co-authors and future readers. As a result of our co-authorship partnership, we wrote 100 books in 95 days, a feat that has never been achieved in the publishing industry anywhere on earth, and we had a tremendous amount of fund doing it!

Dictate Your Book
Many would-be great writers don’t have the desire to physically write, type, or compute, yet they could master the fine art of dictation. Again, you can hire a great assistant to transcribe and perfect your dictation.

The software from Nuance is called Dragon NaturallySpeaking and claims to have 99% accuracy after training. Alternatively, you could use www.idictate.com (very inexpensive); and send your dictated files from your computer to theirs in India. Or call your dictation in daily by phone over Skype.com for free.

The possibilities for how to do it obviously keep expanding as an increasingly literate world becomes hungry for information, insight, and wisdom.

You Could Interview Experts and Put Their Thinking into Your Books
Interviewing experts is another way to fast-write a book. This is what Napoleon Hill did to write a book called Think and Grow Rich. It has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. (It is becoming a major motion picture directed by Martin Dunkerton, and it will feature Mark Victor Hansen.)

You can interview the leaders of any field and turn it instantly into money-making books, CDs, videos, movies, documentaries, or whatever. As Hill’s title says, “Think! And grow rich!”

Essentials of Book Printing

Essentials of Book Printing
Written by Jennifer A. Thursday, 26 April 2007

Publishing your works is one issue that you should cope. This can enhance the results with a lot of aspects. This might be easy on some people, but this is entirely different with first-time publishers. With being very challenging tasks, we will get through some of the basic things to look out for when starting up your publishing project. If you need results with your project, a reliable printer comes in the scene, getting them is also another task which can take time quality and ease of service is your concern.

From comparing costs, it is vital that they can cater to your specifications as well as expectations. Along the web, there are several credible printing sites which solely offer book and catalog printing, their specialization can be beneficial and then can be more knowledgeable. Here are the guidelines on how to look for a good book printing site;Let them handle your project. It is best to leave it to the professional printers. Entrusting the publication can be easy; from there you can ask for a sample to check on the quality. The company can always eliminate other cost and will practically share time off on the production phase.

Research on the details on how a publishing project works, this can also make your projects run smoothly. There are numerous guides that can be essential in making sure you get the job done, it won’t take much time to review them.On the production phase, concentrate on the front page or cover, this will attract more attention than other books. Analyze the information on your book; get a good theme to go along with it.

Contact the printer before finalizing the design, you can always point out some minor details to be augmented, double checking and always keeping a keen eye on typo’s and every detail to be correct. Your specifications must be met from the printing site, with their professional staff; you can create the desired results on your book.

Evaluate the number of copies you need to produce. Maximize them and keep in mind your budget, but there are also advantages on bulk quantities, plan them well especially if you are still new to publishing projects.Plan all the details well, investing on a good amount of time will pave way to successful production. Efforts are easily wasted if the publishing stage was taken for granted. A well-planned schedule of tasks and quality checking can be your ticket to a good publishing phase.

Always refer to the free rate quote tool; they can be of invaluable use for your project. It can actually be reviewed and would cost lower compared to just going for fixed deals. This can always be available on a credible website. Often, there is a free file review tool to let their professional staff check your work, enhance, and simply get the best out of the publishing phase.

A well thought-out plan can be your best arsenal to combat faulty publishing errors, since the printer can never be liable for any errors that you made making your work, you can always review them beforehand, making sure that everything is right, because once it’s on the production phase, you can never go back and replace them particularly on book printing.

Turn Your Words into Prospects, Publicity and Profits

If You Can Write a 5, 7 or 10 Item Grocery List
You Can Turn Your Words into Prospects, Publicity and Profits

One of the many blessings of being a self-employed professional is that I get to do many different things every day. Here is a sampling:

Full-time marriage and family therapy practice, free from managed care for 10 years
Relationship coach for singles and couples

President of BuildingYourIdealPractice.com and practice-building coach

Professional speaker

Nationally syndicated relationship columnist

Author of several books, booklets, e-programs and e-books

Internet entrepreneur with 8 websites, and almost that many in development

Now please understand, I’m not trying to impress you, but I do want to impress something upon you. I share this with you to highlight this one fact-There is one theme that runs through every one of these business activities that has greatly contributed to my success……That one thing is…………. Writing Articles!

And this from a guy who never finished his dissertation because I was convinced that I could not write. (That’s right, I’ve got the Ph (piled higher) but not the D (deeper) 😉 In 1994, I was your basic marriage and family therapist, struggling to keep clients on the books and wondering how I was going to respond to the onslaught of managed care that had finally reached my area of the country.

At that point, the local newspaper had been running a weekly mental health column in the Health section for a few years. There had been three writers up to this point, with the contract being somewhere between 6 months and a year.

Each of these columnists had written dry academic stuff like “What is manic-depression?” or “What is obsessive compulsive disorder?” I had written two pieces for the local psychiatric center; one on parenting adolescents and one on stress.

So when the time came around to open up the Mental Health Columnist position again, I applied. And got turned down.

Even worse, someone else in my practice got it. Further evidence in my mind that I really could not write. A year later, the position was open again. Being a stubborn and persistent sort, I applied again and got it! So now I was faced with having to come up with a column each and every week.

Well, I thought, at least it’s only for six months. So I just began writing about the things I saw around me in my practice and my world. Somewhere in that first 6 months, Knight-Ridder/Tribune Media Services picked it up and began to syndicate it nationally and internationally. The first six months passed, and they wanted me to continue to write it. The second six months, (one year) passed, and they still wanted me to write it.

That was ten years ago, and I’ve long ago lost track of how many places my articles appear. The reason for my telling you this story is to communicate as strongly as I can:

You Can Do This!

In fact, if you can write a 10 item grocery list, you can write an article. Writing articles results in………..1) Prospects – Having your writing appear in any publicly offered medium newspapers, magazines, web sites (even your own!), books, e-books, e-programs, etc. makes you the expert in the eyes of the public. Being perceived as an expert brings you prospects.

2) Publicity – I live and practice in Tallahassee, Florida, which is in Leon County. The last time I counted, thanks to three universities and many people wanting to live here, there are approximately 76 Clinical Members of The American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy in Leon County.

The joke in Tallahassee is that you are either a therapist or in therapy, or both.
For comparison, in Orange County, Florida (Orlando, Disney, etc.) there are only 87 Clinical Members of AAMFT.

The point is that the competition for clients in Tallahassee is tight. So why have I been able to run a full practice completely managed-care and insurance-free for the last 10 years?

The main reason is that I have written a weekly relationship column for the last ten years and I am “the guy in the paper.”

3) Profits – Because writing makes you the expert, you are then able to charge what you believe you are worth, no one blinks, and you get it. And that is just the source of income that comes from sitting in my chair with clients every day. Because an article can become an e-program, a feature in your own and other newsletters, a book, an e-book, a presentation, etc. writing results in passive income that you can earn while sleeping or having fun. So now it is time to back up that claim I made a few paragraphs ago – remember?

If you can write a 10 item grocery list, you can write an article. The Jeff Herring 5 and 5 Approach to Writing an Article Get Ready: What is your area of expertise? What is your niche? What excites you?

Whatever your answer to the question above, here is the next question: First Five: Thinking of your ideal client in your niche, what are five of the signs that they need your kind of service?Write down those five signs or symptoms.

Second Five: Now, what are five solutions or things you would recommend that this person do?Write down those five solutions or things to do. All that is left to do is to add a few lines to each of the five symptoms and to each of the five solutions.

Just think of it as putting some meat on the skeleton you just sketched out. You now have what could be your very first article! The five and five approach is just one of the 20 templates I use for creating your own stream of articles, included in my My Express-Start Article Authoring Program.

Internet Marketing. What Does And Doesn’t Work

Internet Marketing. What Does And Doesn’t Work? Part 2
Written by Lance Brown Saturday, 05 May 2007

Welcome back to our discussion on my experience of internet marketing. As I said before I hope to save you some money and time by learning from my stupidity. I will assume you read my first article and we will pick up where I left off. I only will talk about things I have tried personally.

Blogs And Blog Comments
As I have written before about blogs the spider engines love to crawl them for content and you stand a much better chance of achieving higher rankings with a blog than a traditional website. Blogs are a lot like forums and allow you to become part of a community of others blogs with similar niches.

Commenting on other blogs and asking intelligent questions is an effective way to build back links to your blog. Only market yourself this way when you can be the solution to a question or problem posed by another blogger.

Having a “my blog network” list right on your blog front page will attract other bloggers to be a part of your network. Posting frequently to your blog will have the search engines visiting often. Blogger.com even pings your posts automatically for you to alert search engines of new content.

Blasters
At one point I was faithfully blasting out ads to so called millions of opt in subscribers that were supposed to be out there hungry to join my program. That was until I was able to track hits to my affiliate link. I discovered that this yielded not even one hit after a week of blasting. Need I say more?

Free Classified Ads
Although some people say they have had good response from this method this has not been my experience. I got some response from people trying to sell me on the program or marketing method they were in but no real interest in my program.

Free For All Listings
A complete waste of time. Being found in these can actually hurt you in the search engines. Slap yourself if you are doing these presently and cease immediately.

Forum Marketing
I have had good success with forums as they allow you to have a signature box at the bottom of all your posts. To join these go to bigboards.com and you will find lots. Faithfully make a few posts to these with intelligent questions or comments daily and watch your hits to your links climb. There are lots of topics and you should be able to find something to participate intelligently in.

Article Marketing
Of course article marketing is the most effective way of building a web presence there is on the net. This is because people primarily use the internet for information. It took me years to discover this. It doesn’t take long to learn how to write articles if you have a little motivation. Submitting articles to article directories is the wisest move you can make.

Concentrate on the big ones like Ezine Articles and Article Base. A lot of people are intimidated by this because they think they can’t write. As the saying goes if you can make a grocery list you can write an article. Once you get going instead of submitting manually you can get some article submission software which allows you to submit much quicker. Writing is a learned skill and what you should do is get a mentor and you’ll be off to the races in no time.

So I hope this helps you in your internet marketing. All comments or questions welcome.

Power Of Media

The Power Of Media
Written by CD Mohatta Monday, 07 May 2007

The Power Of MediaThe media is responsible for both- reflecting values of a society and creating new ones to a good extent. ‘The pen is mightier than the sword’ goes an old proverb. It has been proved over and over again since the advent of writing and development of media. Media today consists of books, television, movies, music, internet, radio, magazines, newspapers etc. Each of them have evolved as a powerful medium in their own right.Values lie at the core of the society.

They evolve and become a part of the society over the years. Both tradition and modernization contribute to the development of values. Values change over time. What was considered taboo 20 years back is a way of life today. Thats how media tends to develop the world. Media is far-reaching. Hollywood stars have mass fan following in countries and places about which even the stars won’t have heard about. With the internet as goes the cliche- the world has become a smaller place.

You can know anything about everything on the net, such is its power and reach. It reflects what people really are and what they really think. No hypocrisy here. The United States has always been a fore-runner, be it movies, fashion or music. What the US does is followed by the rest. Jeans and fast-food, original products of the US are now as familiar to a Chinese as to an Indian. The newly developing nations adopted values and traditions created by the west. TV shows are now telecast all over, thanks to satellites. So the American way of life is copied in Japan.

So do these people lose their original tradition and values. To an extent, yes but mostly the case is- the original values are retained while newer values and trends keep on enhancing the culture. So slowly a new way of life develops- no wonder parents often say, ‘this wasn’t the case in our time’. Books reflect the mind of an intellectual. They give a deep insight to the way a person thinks. Books are very effective media to spread thoughts and values. Since a book is read, shared and preserved over the years unlike a TV show. Talking of TV shows, they have created new milestones.

The show ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ revived the age old human greed for wealth and popularity. Now everyone wanted to be instant millionaires. Hard work- who wants to do it.

Blockbuster reality shows like Survivor and Temptation Island drove home the same points. Whatever the people pretend to be- their basic cravings have and will remain the same. And this was true for everyone everywhere. New values weren’t created, maybe brought out of the closet again. But greed and lust shown in these shows reflect the common man on the streets.Music and Internet are considered perfect media for spreading one’s own beliefs, values etc.

Rock stars have masses emulating them. Wearing T-shirts worshipping satan is a part of the rock culture. But many of these same people do go to church on sundays. Talking less about the internet is better. Instead moving on to magazines and newspapers. They print to earn. So scandals are moneyspinners for them and not a challenge of morals and righteousness for the society.

It is bad when these media take a biased opinion on an issue and publicise the same. Its the commoners who take a wrong side because of wrong ethics.Media makes or breaks people, events, anything. Values get created, diffused in the society. Something thats a way of life for one man becomes a new value for another, thanks to media.

Internet Marketing With A Vengeance

Internet Marketing With A VengeanceWritten by John Arrington

Wednesday, 09 May 2007

Is it really possible to make money online? What do you need to know to become a successful internet marketer? Success doesn’t come over night. Success only comes by working smart not working hard.
Many people are intimidated at the thought of starting their own home business. The primary reason? They don’t know where to start. Some goes out and buys tons of ebooks, courses and they sit down and start trying to learn to much at one time. Now they start to suffer from what is known as information overload. Now they really don’t know where to start. Many people starting their own online business rush things, they place a few ads and sit back thinking riches will fall in their laps. So from their little efforts, no profits come flowing in, so they return to their ole 9-5 rut. To where they was trying to escape in the first place.

Is there truly a way to make money online? You Bet! But in order to do this, you must be confident and be believable.

To become successful online you must become teachable. Those who knows it all, don’t know nothing. Why? Because things are always changing. And to stay on top of things you must learn the new methods of internet marketing. The internet changes daily so does marketing online.

Anyone can become a success if they are willing to learn.
So, if you are about to throw in the towel and call it quits, wait and give it one more chance and become teachable. And start studying those who are already successful. Take notes. And put together a plan.
Stay focused on becoming successful and your dreams will come true.

Anyone can become successful online by setting small goals, reachable goals. And are willing to put forth the efforts to reach their goals, one goal at a time.

How to Effectively Promote Your Book Online

How to Effectively Promote Your Book Online
Written by Michael Fleischner Tuesday, 15 May 2007

Self published novel or ebook? Generate sales with proven online marketing strategies. If you’re looking to market your personally authored book or ebook, learn from the Internet marketing experts. Selling books online is a great way to promote your product and increase sales.

Although many marketing methods are available, there are some in particular that have proven to generate above average results for selling books – printed and electronic. Learn more about each of the following if you’re ready to start selling and be sure to seek guidance from those who have already successfully marketed online.

1. Develop a Website or Blog. Thinking that it’s not worth developing a website or blog for a single publication? Think again. Today, acquiring a domain name is easier than ever – and it costs less than $10. Additionally, you can buy a website or a website template for about $75.

If you know some very basic HTML, you can develop a website for less than a hundred dollars. Having a website that is only focused on a single publication can work wonders for promoting your product. Blogs are even easier to create. Already have a website but need a blog?

Visit Blogger.com, WordPress.com, or simply type in “free blog” into Google. You’ll quickly find a whole host of free blog sites that help you set up a blog in less than five minutes. Once you’ve created your blog, enter a post about your ebook and provide a link to your online store or order form. If you’re looking for a way to process online transactions, visit Paypal.com. For about twelve dollars per month, you can process transactions for those wishing to purchase your book online. There are other online transaction management tools you can use, but Paypal is one of the easiest I’ve used to set up and accept online transactions.

2. Online Marketing (PPC) By now you’ve heard of Google Adwords. Other providers such as Yahoo! and MSN also offer pay-per-click programs. These online marketing programs allow you to promote your book or e-book to a very targeted audience. For example, if your book is about “antique lamp shades”, you can purchase the keyword phrase, “antique lamp shades” to display on sites that offer related content. As a result, those seeing your ad can click through to your website or Jump Page.

The best part about pay-per-click advertising is that you only pay when someone clicks on your advertisement. Be careful though, you could end up with a lot of clicks and only a few conversions. Test multiple campaigns and evaluate their effectiveness on a daily basis. Google offers you free tools that can help you evaluate the results of your campaign in greater detail such as Google Analytics.

3. Specific Jump Page/Testimonials(audio and written) Short of building an entire website or starting a blog, you could simply build a single jump page. A jump page is a promotional page that pitches your product or service. There are tons of successful jump pages out there that you can reproduce with your own content. The most successful jump pages are those that are easy to read and include testimonials. Testimonials from book reviewers are very influential. To make your jump page even more compelling, offer print and audio testimonials. A good site to follow is SEO Elite

4. Samples One of the most effective marketing strategies on the planet is sampling. You see companies offering samples to invite users to try their products or services. The same can be true for book purchasers. Share a summary, a chapter, or let them peruse your book. Just spend some time on Amazon.com and you’ll quickly see how promotion and access can play a major role in the purchase decision. One great technique is to offer a small sample for free. Offer additional access (perhaps to a full chapter), after users provide you with their name and email address. This allows you to touch prospective purchasers via email after they’ve contacted you, keeping their interest high and continuing to promote your publication.

5. Email marketing With the 2003 introduction of CAN-SPAM legislation, email marketers must be very careful about who they email and how. Learn CAN-SPAM basics before you begin emailing people. A couple of things to keep in mind from an email marketing perspective is that your own list (of emails collected via your website) will almost always perform better than a purchased list. Think about ways you can collect the names of individuals visiting your website such as offering a free summary or excerpt in exchange for their name and email address. From a CAN-SPAM perspective, make sure your physical address is included on each email and offer an opt-out. If a recipient asks to be taken off your list, remove him/her within 10 days. You can also use an online service to help manage your email marketing. Online email providers are very careful about conforming to email marketing standards and will lead you through the process step-by-step.

6. Refer a friend Your current customers can be your best marketers. Once an individual has purchased your book, be sure to give them a reason to refer others. Perhaps you can offer them a special promotion on a different product or perhaps additional content that wasn’t available with their first purchase. Offering a friends and family coupon is another great way to generate additional sales. Something as simple as a $5 off coupon is a great way to promote your product and create buzz. Whatever tactic you use in your email, be sure to encourage customers to refer others.

7. Affiliate program Are there other websites that attract the audience that would be perfect for your book? If so, contact them via phone or email and see if they’d be willing to sell your publication in exchange for a commission. This is a great way to reach an audience in an affordable way and is considered an affiliate program. Most of the successful products being sold online today are not being promoted from a single website.

Rather, many sites are promoting a given product or service. These sites are often referred to as niche sites as they cater to specific audience or segment. In addition to doing some research on your own, you can also investigate affiliate program sites that you can use to promote your product. Affiliate sites bring together advertisers and publishers. The publishers provide the content, software, or resources, and the advertisers promote these products in exchange for a sales commission.

Marketing your book or ebook takes time but can have significant pay-off. Utilize some or all of the marketing methods described above to sell you book online. These methods have been used by some of the most successful internet marketers promoting print and electronic book products online.

Internet marketing doesn’t have to be complicated. Learn from the experts and follow internet marketing strategies like those above which have already proven successful. Learning the Craft

Learning the Craft
by Dawn Copeman

Writing, just like any other career, involves serving an apprenticeship: a period in which you are expected to hone your writing skills and learn the craft. But just how should you go about it?

The best way, as with any other apprenticeship, is to learn from those who are already practising the craft — i.e. other writers. There are a variety of ways in which you can learn from your fellow writers:

Books
Free Online Courses
Writing Newsletters
Writing Groups/Circles/Forums
Paid Courses (distance learning, evening classes, day classes, summer schools, campus based MFA’s, distance learning MFA’s.)

But how do you choose which one is right for you?

The answer depends on three questions you need to ask yourself:

What do you need or want to know?
How much time can you commit to learning the craft?
How much money are you willing to spend to learn the craft?
What do you need to know?

If you’re an absolute beginner, the answer is obviously everything! There are many specialist courses aimed at the complete beginner; they are, of course, comprehensive, expensive and time-consuming. But they might be worth the investment if you are serious about changing your career.

However, you might not have the time nor the money to embark upon a comprehensive writing course, in which case you should choose an appropriate short course that meets your immediate needs, such as one on how to write a query letter, or how to write grammatically correct English.

Alternatively, why not buy a book to learn your craft? There are lots of them out there and they cover all the basics a beginner needs to know. Moira, for example, has just released her popular online course “How to Write for Magazines” as a book. So, before you spend money on a course, see if there are any books out there that could steer you in the right direction. Read the entire article here

Setting Effective Writing Goals

Setting Effective Writing Goals

by Moira Allen

One of the greatest challenges we face as writers is the lack of “structure” in our job. There’s no one to tell us what to do, when to do it, how to do it — or even whether we’ve done it well. (While acceptances are certainly a sign of success, rejections are not necessarily a sign of failure.)

One way to overcome that challenge is to learn how to set goals. Goals, by the way, are not the same as dreams. While you may yearn to become a six-figure novelist who regularly guests on Oprah, that’s not a goal. It’s a dream — and the only way you’ll achieve that dream is by setting measurable goals that will take you toward that dream, one step at a time.

Defining Goals
To be effective, goals should meet three criteria: They should be measurable, meaningful, and attainable.

Measurable. Many writers start with “qualititative” goals: We want to be a “good” writer, or a “better” writer, or a “successful” writer, or a writer who produces “worthwhile” material. But how do you define good, or successful, or worthwhile? Because these terms are so difficult to measure, such goals continually seem to slip from our grasp (or to be beyond our grasp).

Goals are useless if you can’t determine whether they’ve been met. (After all, it’s always possible to become a “better” writer.) Thus, quantifiable goals — goals that can be measured by some form of output or results — are often more effective. For example, you might set a goal of writing a particular number of pages per day, or sending out a certain number of queries per week. If you dream of becoming “rich” (or at least “self-supporting”), define a specific income goal — and the time in which you hope to reach it.

Attainable. The gulf between where we are and where we’d like to be often seems to great to span. Goals can help by breaking the journey into short, attainable steps. If your dream is to become a best-selling novelist, but you’ve never set pen to paper, consider setting an immediately attainable goal such as attending a writing course, or taking a class online, or simply studying a book on novel-writing. A second goal might be to write your first story, write the outline of your novel, or actually write your first chapter. A third might be to seek feedback, perhaps by joining a critique group or by sending your story to an editor. Each goal marks a step toward your long-term dream, and each is attainable in its own right. Read entire article here

Start Your Writing Career

What You Need to Start Your Writing Career

by Moira Allen

A career in freelance writing requires very little “startup investment.” It does, however, require a few basic tools — equipment, resources, supplies. Here are some of the things you’ll need to set up your “writing office” — even if that office is just a corner of the kitchen.

These tools and resources fall into two categories: The absolute necessities, and the optional extras. The necessities are items that you’ll need to acquire before you can go very far in your writing work — even if this means laying out some expenses before you earn any income. The “extras” are important — but can usually wait until you see a profit.

The Necessities

A workspace of your own. The very first thing you need to establish is a place to write. While some writers have launched their careers from a corner of the kitchen table, it helps immensely to have a space — even a very small space — that you can call your own. Most writers feel that this space also requires a door that can be closed against interruptions, distractions, and family members. (Another advantage of an enclosed workspace is that it’s more likely to qualify for the home-office deduction.)

At the very least, you’ll need the following:

A desktop (even if it’s a table) for your computer
Good lighting for your computer and reading areas
A flat surface to spread out notes, books, and other materials
A place to file research notes, articles, correspondence, etc.
A place to store your writing supplies
A handy shelf for your most useful reference books
A chair that provides good back support

You don’t have to go to the office supply store and buy a mahogany desk (though I recommend shelling out for a good chair). Plenty of folks make do with a couple of boards laid across two filing cabinets and a bookcase made of boards and bricks. The key is to make that space yours — and to make sure that your family respects that space. Read the entire article here

What Is a Writer?

You want to write, but you don’t. Or perhaps you start, but can’t bring yourself to finish, leaving a dozen promising articles or stories in various stages of incompletion. Or perhaps you finish, but can’t quite bring yourself to stuff those pages into an envelope and pop them in the mail. Your family, friends, or critique group say your work is wonderful. So what is holding you back?

What Is a Writer?  by Moira Allen

This scenario is far from rare. It isn’t the same as the dreaded malady we call “writer’s block.” It’s more like “submitter’s block,” and I’ve known many excellent writers who suffer from it. They produce quality work — stories, novels, articles — and earn well-deserved praise from peers in critique groups, yet balk at the thought of actually sending that work to market.

Ironically, this syndrome rarely impairs the clueless, who remain willing to send single-spaced, 40-page, grammatically challenged “short stories” into the market without a second thought. And therein lies the key: A writer must reach a certain degree of competence before s/he can begin to question that competence. And questions of competence lie at the core of “submitter’s block.”

The “am I good enough?” question plagues nearly every writer, from newbies to established authors. New writers find the question particularly difficult, because they have less “external information” on which to base an answer. But even if you’ve sold several pieces, you may feel qualms if you try to break into a different subject area or better-paying market, or to switch from nonfiction to fiction or from short pieces to book-length manuscripts.
